NEW DELHI: Services on the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line between Anand Vihar and Vaishali stations were affected for nearly one and a half hours on Tuesday evening after a failure in the overhead equipment, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. The disruption impacted the evening rush hour, leaving thousands of commuters stranded while returning home from work, according to news agency PTI. In a statement, the DMRC said train services on the section between Anand Vihar and Vaishali on the Blue Line were affected from 5.20 pm to 6.43 pm due to overhead equipment failure. “Services were halted on the section to carry out restoration work,” it said. The DMRC added that single-line operations were also maintained for some time between Yamuna Bank and Anand Vihar stations to ensure partial connectivity in the affected section. However, regular train services continued uninterrupted on the stretch from Noida Electronic City to Dwarka Sector 21, it said. The disruption led to heavy crowding at several metro stations, with passengers sharing videos of congestion on social media. Earlier on Monday morning, train operations on the Violet Line were also disrupted due to a signalling issue at Central Secretariat station.
