Kanpur: A driver died while a woman passenger sustained serious injuries in a road accident on Agra -Lucknow expressway in Kannauj district, late Sunday night.A private bus traveling from Jaipur to Gorakhpur had reached the Agra-Lucknow Expressway when the driver dozed off, causing the bus to collide with an unidentified heavy vehicle moving ahead. The collision was so forceful that front part of the bus was damaged and the glass shattered. Other driver of the bus, Mukesh (52), resident of Jassa Kheda, district Beawar (Rajasthan), who was sitting in the conductor’s seat, was seriously injured. Meanwhile, Manviri (50), wife of Suresh Chand, a resident of Bharatpur (Rajasthan), who was traveling on the bus, also got injured. As soon as the information was received, security officer Manohar Singh, UPEIDA teams, ambulance and Saurikh police reached the spot.The injured were immediately sent to Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences Saifai in Etawah for treatment. During treatment, the seriously injured Mukesh succumbed. Doctors stated that the injured woman’s condition is out of danger and her treatment is ongoing. After the accident, the other driver parked the vehicle on the roadside and fled from the spot. About 70 passengers were on board the bus.All passengers were safely evacuated and brought to the toll plaza, and later arrangements for other buses were made to send them to their destinations. The damaged bus was removed with the help of a crane. After the incident, there was a chaotic atmosphere for some time, although traffic continued to operate smoothly. The bus owner has been informed of the incident, and the family members of the deceased driver are also being notified.
