NEW DELHI: A fire broke out at a plastic factory in Delhi’s Narela Industrial Area on Saturday, officials said.Fire tenders were rushed to the spot immediately after the incident was reported, and efforts were underway to douse the flames, they said.Further details regarding the incident are awaited.Meanwhile, in a separate development linked to another fire incident, Delhi Police have arrested a cook in connection with the Malaviya Nagar fire case that claimed 21 lives, including several foreign nationals, officials said on Saturday.Police said the investigation has indicated that the cook’s negligence led to the fire. Several other individuals have also been detained in connection with the case.The fire at a bed-and-breakfast in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area in the early hours of Wednesday had claimed at least 21 lives, including 13 foreign nationals, and left several others injured.During the investigation, authorities allegedly found multiple safety violations and serious deficiencies in the building’s fire safety infrastructure.According to sources, windows and glass panels of the building were completely sealed, leaving no outlet for smoke to escape. Investigators also found that the entrance to the basement was locked from inside, with rescue teams reportedly taking nearly 10 minutes to gain access, from where six to seven people were rescued.Police have arrested hotel owner Lovekesh Bajaj, along with Sweety Sarkar and Pushpo Sarkar, in connection with the case. After completion of investigation, a chargesheet has been filed before the court against the accused persons.Bajaj, who owns the Flourish Stays Hotel in Malviya Nagar, has been sent to four days of police custody in connection with the fire tragedy in which 28 people were also injured.
