Lucknow: The competition for undergraduate admissions is high this year, according to data released by the Lucknow University for the 2026–27 session. The five-year integrated LLB programme has emerged as most competitive course in terms of applicants per seat, followed by BBA.The integrated LLB programme received over 7,000 applications this year, which equates to around 21 applicants per seat, considering 300 seats plus 30 additional seats for NRIs.BBA has around 6,000 applications for about 450 seats this year, resulting in nearly 17 applicants per seat. Last year, around 5,000 applications were received.Lucknow University spokesperson Mukul Srivastava said, “The data shows number of applications has increased in several programmes. Courses like LLB and BBA continue to see highest number of applicants per seat. The demand is high because these courses lead to career options as advocate, legal adviser, corporate lawyer, judge, business manager, marketing executive, human resource manager, finance professional and entrepreneur.”BSc Biology has around 4,800 applications for 393 seats this year, which comes to about 13 applicants per seat, compared to around 4,400 applications last year. BCom Hons has received around 3,800 applications for 300 seats, resulting in about 12 applicants per seat.BCA has recorded around 3,800 applications this year, which comes to nearly 10 applicants per seat, compared to 3,500 last year. BSc Agriculture Hons has about 900 applications for 150 seats, which is about six applicants for each seat.BSc Maths course has over 3,000 applications this year, around four applicants per seat, compared to 2,700 last year. BCom has around 4,400 applications for 1,100 seatsslightly higher than last year’s 4,000 applications.The BA programme has received 6,600 applications this year for 1,950 seats, which is over three applicants per seat, compared to around 6,500 applications last year.Admission coordinator Anitya Gaurav said, “Admission process will be carried out on the basis of merit in the entrance exam. The counselling and seat allocation process will be conducted online to ensure students complete the process without difficulty. The entrance exam will be conducted from Jul 6 to Jul 12.”He added that courses across streams, from BSc biology and agriculture to BCom, BBA, BCA, BSc mathematics and BA, are witnessing strong demand as they offer diverse career opportunities in fields such as healthcare, research, finance, IT, management, govt services and entrepreneurship, making employability a key factor driving student preference.
