New Delhi: An 18-year-old youth slipped and fell into a drain before being swept away by a strong current of water in southeast Delhi’s Sarita Vihar Friday evening, triggering a search and rescue operation. He has not been traced so far, police said.The teen has been identified as Ankit, a resident of Bhim Colony in Ali village. Ankit, who worked as a pantry worker in Noida, was the elder of two siblings and returning home from work at the time of the incident.According to police, two PCR calls were received at 8.31 pm and 8.54 pm at the Kalindi Kunj and Sarita Vihar police stations, respectively, reporting that a youth had been swept away in a drain around 8 pm near the Priyanka Camp drain in Madanpur Khadar.Police teams rushed to the spot and met Manish, 23, a friend of Ankit. Manish told police that the two had been returning from Noida when Ankit slipped near the drain and was swept away by water.A search and rescue operation was launched by police, the DDMA East Rescue Team and the Delhi Fire Service. Teams have been searching the drain and surrounding areas to locate the missing youth.Last week, three school children were reportedly rescued by locals after they fell into an allegedly overflowing drain amid severe waterlogging in north Delhi’s Jagatpur. Last month, a seven-year-old boy drowned in a waterlogged vacant plot in outer Delhi’s Samaypur Badli.
