A 12-year-old girl sustained injuries after receiving an electric shock from an illegally installed fence around a private memorial near Thuraiyur in Trichy district on Thursday evening.

Pudukottai: As many as 16 people suffered a mild electric shock after a freezer box used to preserve the body of an accident victim malfunctioned at a house near Keeranur in Pudukottai district on Thursday afternoon.The body of Devadas, 33, was kept in the freezer box at his residence for the last rites. A large number of relatives and neighbours had gathered to pay their respects. Police said the incident occurred in the afternoon when an electrical fault in the freezer unit caused a current leak giving electric shocks to 16 people standing nearby.The injured were treated at govt hospital in Keeranur, where doctors said all of them had suffered only mild shocks and were stable. Keeranur police registered a case and are investigating.
