Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi, (SGTB Khalsa College) in association with the World Bank Group (WBG) and the South Asian Students\u2019 Economics Meet (SAESM) organised a quiz on the 22 April in the Master Tara Singh Auditorium of the college. The event was attended by Vysakh Sateesh from the World Bank Group, Vinita Daryani, External Affairs-Digital Media Specialist, WBG, and Dr. Mihir Pandey, Founding Member of the Governing Council of SAESM. Prof. Gurmohinder Singh, principal, SGTB Khalsa College inaugurated the event and welcomed the guests with an introduction of the college. Vysakh Sateesh, a consultant at the WBG, subsequently spoke about the World Bank Group and its campaign titled #ClearHerPath. He spoke in detail about a few barriers that women in South Asia face while seeking employment or in their work environments, highlighting the need for projects like #ClearHerPath and a few steps that the WBG has taken to make employment and economic opportunities for women in South Asia. <\/p>\n #ClearHerPath Quiz aimed to create awareness and encourage discussion among students about the various barriers to women\u2019s employment in South Asia (Pics: SGTB Khalsa College)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Prof. Pandey charted out the history and functions of SAESM, noting how it has become one of the premier hubs for economists across South Asia. The #ClearHerPath campaign is a World Bank Group communications initiative that calls on stakeholders \u2014 including policymakers, the private sector, labour unions, think tanks, and civil society \u2014 to support policies, legislative reforms, and programs such as care services, safe mobility, and skills training to expand jobs and economic opportunities for women in South Asia. In a region where only 1 in 3 women are in the workforce, compared to 3 in 4 men \u2014 the need for such action is urgent. By showcasing stories of initiatives from across South Asia that have made a difference, #ClearHerPath demonstrates that economic prosperity for the entire region is possible when women are empowered to work, earn an income, and contribute to their families, communities, and economies. In light of this campaign, the #ClearHerPath Quiz aimed to create awareness and encourage discussion among students about the various barriers to women\u2019s employment in South Asia. Through a hearty competition and exciting activities, the quiz aimed to bring ground level facts, myth busters and thought-provoking questions to students about the issue. It was the first quiz of its kind to be organised in similar fashion across the South Asian Nations.The first round was held online and prospective participants submitted videos to the organizing committee discussing the issues underscored by the campaign. From more than a hundred applicants, the organizing committee led by Dr. Rupali Sharma, Assistant Professor in Economics at SGTB Khalsa College and India Coordinator of SAESM shortlisted 5 teams from across University of Delhi. After three rounds of competitive quizzing, Kamble, a team from SGTB Khalsa College, emerged as the winner with 1900 points. A team from Kirori Mal College was the runner-up.
