<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nNEW DELHI: Two Toyota Fortuner SUVs bearing the same registration number and found to be stolen have been recovered in west Delhi during a special checking drive ahead of Independence Day, raising concerns over vehicles being moved around the Delhi-NCR using identical registration details, news agency PTI reported on on Monday.As per the PTI report, the recovery assumes added significance as the national capital steps up security and vehicle checks ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Police, however, have not linked the recovered SUVs to any terror-related activity.As per the report, the two Toyota Fortuners were traced after police received specific information that SUVs carrying the same registration number were being used at different locations in Delhi-NCR.A police team launched checks, examined CCTV footage, verified ownership details and conducted field inquiries before tracing the two vehicles to separate locations.“The two SUVs were subsequently traced from separate locations and brought to the concerned office for verification,” a senior police officer told PTI.The vehicles were then subjected to physical inspection, during which police found that both were displaying the same registration and chassis numbers.The SUVs were taken to an authorised service centre for technical examination. The examination confirmed that both vehicles were stolen, police said.The discovery was made as part of a special pre-Independence Day checking operation focused on suspicious and stolen vehicles as well as second-hand car dealers, according to PTI.Police said one of the recovered SUVs was also found to be involved in a cheating case registered at Gandhi Nagar police station.The accused in that case was identified as Aryan Mavi, 23, a resident of Vivek Vihar, police said.The recovered vehicles are linked to cases registered at Gandhi Nagar and Preet Vihar police stations.With Independence Day approaching, security agencies in Delhi have intensified checks and verification of vehicles and other potential security vulnerabilities across the capital.(With agency inputs)<\/div>\n
