In last 6 years, from March 2020 to June 2026, the median investor age in the country has fallen from 38 years to 33 years, while the share of investors below 30 has jumped to 37.9%.The total number of registered investors stood at 13.2 crore as of June 2026. Market participation grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 34.01% between FY21 and FY26, significantly faster than the 19.3% CAGR recorded between FY16 and FY21.Data released by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in its Market Ki Pulse report said, “The investor base is growing beyond traditional market hubs, while becoming younger and gradually more gender-diverse.”The proportion of investors aged below 30 years increased from 23.5% in March 2020 to 37.9% in June 2026. The younger group also made up 59% of new investor registrations during FY27 to date, covering April to June 2026. In FY20, investors below 30 accounted for 52% of new registrations.<\/p>\n The expansion of the investor base has not been limited to the country’s largest states. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal and Rajasthan together accounted for 47.6% of India’s investors.However, states outside the top 10 have increased their share of the investor pool. They accounted for 26.9% of total investors in June 2026, compared with around 22% in FY17.The NSE findings noted that “The investor base is gradually expanding beyond traditional large states” as “India’s investor base is becoming younger and more diverse.”Regional participation also showed differences across the country. North India had the largest share, accounting for 36.8% of the investor base as of June 2026. West India followed with 29.1%, while South India accounted for 21.1% and East India 12.1%.<\/p>\n Female participation in the market has also continued to increase, with women now making up approximately 25% of investors nationwide.Maharashtra had the highest proportion of female investors among the states listed, at 28.9%. Tamil Nadu followed closely at 28.5%, while women accounted for 19.1% of investors in Uttar Pradesh.The data thus showed an investor base that has grown not only in size, but has also changed in terms of age, geography and gender representation between March 2020 and June 2026.<\/div>\nMore investors coming from beyond India’s biggest states<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n
