Mental health expert Dr Kiran Chavan joins Maharashtra\u2019s key healthcare policy body<\/span><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

PUNE: The Government of Maharashtra has appointed Dr Kiran Prakash Chavan, founder of Manobrahma Foundation, Director of Samvad Rehabilitation Centre, and a mental health and public health expert, as a member of the Maharashtra State Mental Health Authority Committee.Dr Chavan has been appointed for a three-year term as a non-official member representing individuals or organisations engaged in the care and support of persons with mental illness.Speaking about his appointment, Dr Chavan said, \u201cThis appointment is not merely an honour for me but also a significant responsibility to help build a stronger, more inclusive and people-centric mental healthcare system in the state. I remain committed to expanding access to mental health services to the last mile and strengthening rehabilitation services.\u201dOver the past several years, Dr Chavan has worked extensively in areas including de-addiction, psychiatric rehabilitation, rehabilitation of homeless persons with mental illness, mental health awareness and community-based mental healthcare, according to a release.The Maharashtra State Mental Health Authority is the state\u2019s apex statutory body responsible for planning, regulating and monitoring mental health services, ensuring effective implementation of mental healthcare legislation and safeguarding the rights of persons with mental illness. The committee comprises experts, government officials and representatives from various sectors of society.Dr Chavan\u2019s appointment is expected to bring his extensive grassroots experience and expertise in mental healthcare to the state\u2019s policy-making process.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
