<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\nNew Delhi: Children of grievously wounded police personnel have approached Supreme Court<\/a>, seeking accountability for those allegedly responsible for attacking law enforcement officers and directions to strengthen their protection while on duty.The impleadment application has been filed through advocate-on-record Venkata Raghuvamsy D by the son of ACP Kailash Singh Bisht, the daughter of sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar<\/a>, the wife of constable Dheeraj and the son of assistant sub-inspector Hamender Rathi. The applicants have sought to be impleaded in the pending writ petition concerning the July protests, contending that the perspective of injured police personnel and their families must also be placed before the court.According to the application, police personnel deployed at Jantar Mantar and other parts of New Delhi between July 20 and 25 were attacked while attempting to maintain public order. It states that nearly 3,000 police personnel had been deployed to manage crowds of about 20,000 to 30,000 people at Jantar Mantar during the protests. Officers were pelted with glass bottles, stones and floor tiles that had been prised out from footpaths and sharpened by rubbing them against the ground \u201cto cause serious incisive injuries\u201d, it states.Referring to the July 25 violence, the plea alleges that SI Kumar was isolated by the mob, beaten with sticks and stones and left with boot marks on his body, and suffered multiple lacerated wounds to different regions of his head that required immediate suturing. ACP Bisht sustained a 5-cm scalp laceration and was rushed to RML Hospital while ASI Rathi suffered two facial fractures and a hairline fracture near his hip. Constable Dheeraj sustained head trauma and soft-tissue injuries.The applicants have urged SC to direct authorities to fix accountability on those responsible for attacking cops and to frame comprehensive guidelines for safeguarding law enforcement officers while discharging official duties. They have also sought a declaration that police personnel are equally entitled to protection under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution while on duty.\u201cThe applicants seek to bring to the notice of this court the human side of the victims of anarchy and street violence,\u201d the plea states, adding that there is \u201cno fundamental right to violence nor breaking lawful orders… much less attack women and men in uniform\u201d.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
