Over the longer term, stock prices tend to track corporate earnings, and expectations have remained elevated as US equities continue to trade close to record highs.Those lofty expectations have placed particular pressure on semiconductor companies and other firms that have been among the biggest beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence boom.Micron Technology, for instance, has seen its share price more than triple this year following exceptionally strong growth. During the quarter ended May 28, the company reported revenue that was more than four times higher than a year earlier.However, investors are increasingly questioning whether such rapid expansion can be sustained.
