The political debate over examination paper leaks intensified on Thursday after Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda cited aseries of recruitment and board examination controversies across states while questioning the Opposition’s stand on the issue. His remarks, however, drew aswift response from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah<\/a>, who disputed the minister’s account of one of the cases.The exchange comes as examination integrity remains under national scrutiny following the NEET-UG 2026 controversy, which has triggered months of protests, legal proceedings and demands for reforms in the conduct of competitive examinations.<\/p>\n

Nadda lists paper leak cases across states

Responding to criticism over examination-related controversies, Nadda listed several alleged paper leak and examination irregularity cases from different parts of the country.He referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board examination, Himachal Pradesh School Education Board examinations, Jharkhand Academic Council papers, Telangana Intermediate and SSC examinations, Tamil Nadu B.Ed. examinations, the West Bengal Police Constable recruitment examination, Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board Group-D recruitment, alleged irregularities in Kerala Public Service Commission examinations and the POC examination in Karnataka.Describing these as only afew examples from amuch longer list, Nadda questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s position on the issue.“I would like to ask Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi ji why your stance on this issue is selective?” the Union Minister said.<\/p>\n

Omar Abdullah disputes Jammu and Kashmir reference

Soon after Nadda’s remarks, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah responded on X, saying the Union Minister had cited the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board paper leak but had got the timeline wrong.“You are absolutely correct about the SSB paper leak in J&K, JP Nadda ji, but you have got the date wrong. It was 2022. The government wasn’t of NC & Congress. It was a government headed by the Lt. Governor,” Abdullah wrote.He added that the case had already been examined by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and questioned what had happened to the High-Level Committee recommended by the court.“We have no idea what happened to the High Level Committee or its report. Perhaps you can share that with us in your next press conference,” Abdullah said.<\/p>\n

High Court observations cited

Along with his response, Abdullah shared extracts from a Jammu and Kashmir High Court order relating to the recruitment examination controversy.According to the excerpts posted by the Chief Minister, the High Court quashed the contract awarded for conducting computer-based examinations and cancelled examinations conducted under that arrangement, including the Junior Engineer (Civil) and Sub-Inspector recruitment examinations.The court also directed the government to constitute aHigh-Level Committee, headed by aretired High Court judge, to examine the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board, investigate alleged irregularities in the tender process and recommend action against those found responsible.The excerpts further recorded the court’s observation that the functioning of the recruitment board did not inspire confidence in conducting public examinations.<\/p>\n
