<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\nNew Delhi:<\/span> Sonam Wangchuk<\/a>, the activist at the centre of the youth protest called by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), was discharged from VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital Tuesday evening. He moved to Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon, following a Delhi High Court<\/a> order.At the time of discharge, his vital parameters were stable, but doctors said pancytopenia, a condition marked by reduced blood cell count, persisted and his serum potassium level was 3.4 mEq\/L.Earlier in the day, the hospital said Wangchuk had refused intravenous fluids and glucose despite repeated medical advice. His blood sugar remained on the lower side. His serum potassium had dropped to 3.2 mEq\/L.The hospital said he required sustained medical supervision and clinical monitoring . The evening health bulletin said all medical records had been handed over to the Medanta team.Earlier Tuesday, Delhi High Court ordered that Wangchuk be shifted immediately from Safdarjung to Medanta, according to his family\u2019s wish. This order came on Wangchuk\u2019s wife, Gitanjai Angmo\u2019s appeal after a court Sunday denied Wangchuk permission to move out of Safdarjung.However, Tuesday, the high court said it was \u201cof the opinion that in case the husband of the appellant is shifted to Medanta Hospital, that will ensure him \u201chis fundamental rights\u201d under Article 19 and Article 21 of the Constitution.Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia\u2019s bench recorded that it \u201cinteracted with all three doctors\u201d. Among them were AIIMS<\/a> in-charge director, Dr Nikhil Tandon, and Dr Akshay Kumar, expert in emergency medicine, who was in the team monitoring Wangchuk at Safdarjung. The bench said: \u201cCertain concerns have been expressed by the doctors primarily relating to low total leucocyte count (TLC) and the potassium level in the blood sample of the husband of the appellant.\u201dThe court asked the director of Medanta to form a team of doctors with requisite expertise to constantly monitor Wangchuk and administer medication. \u201cWe are concerned with (Wangchuk\u2019s) fundamental rights. Nothing to do with all that is going on,\u201d the bench said, adding that Angmo will be permitted to visit Wangchuk as and when she desires.Solicitor-general Tushar Mehta said govt had no objection to Wangchuk being shifted to Medanta. \u201cThe only thing is that he may not get a discharge against medical advice. The irony of the situation today is that those around him want him out, irrespective of his health,\u201d Mehta said.\u201cWe will not go into all that. Do not drag the court into all that,\u201d the chief justice said in response.Senior advocate Akhil Sibal, appearing for Angmo, submitted that Wangchuk\u2019s vitals were stable and he should be shifted to Medanta as per his wish. He highlighted that the activist has also written a letter complaining about his hospitalisation at Safdarjung, which raised issues of surveillance and that his phone was taken away.In her appeal, Angmo contended that the single judge\u2019s order illegally confined Wangchuk to Safdarjung and effectively denied the activist or his wife any decisive authority over his medical treatment.SG Mehta had then said that this was not a case of an \u201cordinary individual\u201d who was \u201csitting at home\u201d. Considering the potential consequences of any \u201csubsequent unforeseen event\u201d, it was the state\u2019s duty to ensure that his health did not deteriorate further and result in a law and order crisis.<\/div>\n
