He allegedly fired at officers during his arrest and was injured in the leg.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>NEW DELHI: <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/delhi-police\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\">Delhi Police<\/a> have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly murdering a three-year-old girl whose body was recovered from a drain in Kapashera.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"3\"\/>Police said a missing complaint regarding the child was received at Kapashera police station on the evening of July 10, following which an FIR was registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and an investigation was launched.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>During the intervening night of July 14 and 15, police received information that the body of a child had been found in the Kapashera drain near FIMT College, news agency ANI reported.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"8\"\/>The deceased was identified as the missing three-year-old girl.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"10\"\/>A Crime Team inspected the spot, and the post-mortem examination confirmed that the child had been murdered before her body was dumped in the drain.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>During the investigation, police analysed CCTV footage and identified a suspect, Chandan Kumar, 37, a resident of Ballia in <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/uttar-pradesh\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\">Uttar Pradesh<\/a>, whose movements were found to be suspicious.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"18\"\/>On Wednesday, a police team raided his hideout in Kapashera village.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>According to police, Kumar allegedly opened fire when officers attempted to arrest him, ANI reported.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>Police said that, while exercising the right of private defence and to effect the arrest, the team fired one round, injuring Kumar in his left leg. He was subsequently arrested.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>A country-made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from his possession, police said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/>During preliminary interrogation, Kumar allegedly confessed to murdering the three-year-old girl.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"31\"\/>The investigation also revealed that the accused was the victim&#8217;s neighbour and lived in the same building as her.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/>He was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment after his arrest.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"35\"\/>Police said Kumar works as a tailor and had been living in Kapashera.
