<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\nNEW DELHI: The IMD on Wednesday forecast a sharp contrast in weather conditions across the states over the next week, with extremely heavy rainfall expected across parts of Northeast and East India, while hot and humid conditions are likely to persist in several southern and coastal states.<\/p>\n According to the IMD, the primary focus of rainfall and convective activity over the next week will remain over eastern and northeastern India.Meghalaya and parts of West Bengal have been placed under “extremely heavy rainfall” warnings, while Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next seven days.Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal are also expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.<\/p>\n Tripura is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall till July 16 as the southwest monsoon remains active over the region, raising the risk of waterlogging and localised flooding.According to the latest forecast issued from Agartala, rainfall is expected to remain active for another three to four days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Agartala until July 16.Rainfall intensity is expected to reduce slightly between July 15 and 16, although heavy rainfall will continue in several districts. A Yellow warning has been issued for Khowai, West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura districts during this period.Heavy rainfall is also expected across Assam over the next five days. On July 15, rainfall intensity is likely to increase, with thunderstorms, lightning and isolated spells of heavy to very heavy rain forecast in several districts. Similar conditions are expected to continue till July 18.Residents have been advised to avoid taking shelter under trees or weak structures during thunderstorms and to follow official weather advisories.<\/p>\n The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Uttarakhand from July 15. By the end of the week, heavy rainfall is also likely over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.In Uttar Pradesh, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over eastern districts from July 17 to 19 and over western Uttar Pradesh on July 18 and 19.<\/p>\n While eastern and northeastern India prepare for heavy rainfall, parts of South and coastal India are expected to experience hot and humid weather over the next three to four days.The IMD said coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and parts of Odisha are likely to witness hot and humid conditions, while heatwave conditions may prevail over coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next three days.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Telangana has asked authorities to remain prepared to implement the first phase of a three-stage contingency plan to minimise losses to farmers if El Ni\u00f1o results in delayed rainfall, prolonged dry spells and high temperatures.<\/p>\n According to the IMD’s latest forecast, the southwest monsoon is expected to remain active over eastern and northeastern India over the next several days, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall likely at many places, while hot and humid conditions are expected to persist across parts of southern and coastal India.<\/p><\/div>\nIMD weather alert<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n
