<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nGetting into Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar is set to become slightly easier from the 2026-27 academic session. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 50 additional Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) seats, taking the college’s annual intake from 200 to 250.The approval comes through a Letter of Permission (LoP) issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) under Section 28(3) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, according to PTI.<\/span><\/p>\n The Health and Medical Education Department said the increase is aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare delivery in Jammu and Kashmir.Officials said the decision follows an assessment carried out by MARB under the Undergraduate Medical Education Standards Regulations (UGMSR), 2023. With the latest approval, the additional seats will be available from the upcoming 2026-27 academic year, PTI reported.<\/p>\n The latest expansion comes a year after GMC Srinagar received approval for 20 additional MBBS seats.According to the department, the increase in intake capacity is expected to create more opportunities for medical aspirants while adding to the state’s medical education infrastructure.Officials said the latest approval further expands the college’s intake as Jammu and Kashmir continues to add capacity in government medical education.
