But, what if the items available in the market are adulterated and instead of making you healthy, they are making you sick with misleading claims and incorrect labelling? Well, this is true and keeping the seriousness of the issue, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India recently issued notices to three brands selling paneer, chocolate spread and juice capsules for misleading claims and incorrect labelling. Scroll down to read the details.<\/p>\n According to an Instgram post by the official handle of FSSAI, the team has issued notices to several food business operators (FBOs) for violating provisions of the FSS Act, 2006 regarding misleading claims and labelling violations. FBOs are directed to strictly comply with the established regulations and to take corrective measures.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to the post, the complaint was that the brand was making a misleading claim of “Fresh Paneer”. The team found that the claim “Fresh Paneer” does not satisfy the condition stipulated under Schedule V for the use of the term ‘Fresh.’ Accordingly, the use of the word ‘Fresh’ is liable to mislead consumers and is considered misleading. Also, the use of the term “healthy” in trademark\/name “healthy happiness” was not in conformity with Regulations 8(3) of the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018. The use of the term “Healthy” is likely to create the impression that the product inherently promotes or enhances health, thereby rendering the claim misleading.According to the post, the company has been directed to submit an explanation within 7 days as to why action should not be initiated under the provisions of the FSS Act 2006, and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The complaint was that the product claims “All Natural” “100% organic”, and “Vegan”. According to FSSAI, the claim ‘All Natural’ does not satisfy the conditions stipuated under Schedule V for the use of the term ‘Natural’ and is liable to mislead consumers. Also, the use of the term ‘100% organic’ and ‘Vegan’ creates an impression that the product is organic and vegan. However, the product has not obtained prior approval of organic food and vegan food endorsement in the FSSAI licence. And as per the advisory dated 28.5.2026, the usage of the term ‘100%’ is not defined or referenced under the FSS Act, 2006 or the Rules and Regulations made thereunder.The company has been directed to submit an explanation within 7 days as to why no action should be initiated under the FSS Act, 2006.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The notice is issued regarding misleading claims including ‘FSSAI Approved’ , “Boost Your Immune System”, “Remove Toxins For Your Body” and “Made with Organic Vegetables”. The FSSAI notice says that the product bears the claim of FSSAI approved, which is liable to create a false impression that the product has been specifically endorsed or approved by FSSAI and appears to be misleading and deceptive. The product bears the health claims, however, no scientific substantiation has been provided. The front of the pack depicts images of tomato, cucumber, and coriander, whereas these ingredients are not declared as ingredients of the product. The product label declares the presence of vitamin C and E. However the quantity of vitamin E has not been declared and vitamin C is only 0.1% nd the label neither provides the percentage contribution towards RDA or furnishes adequate information.The company has been directed to submit an explanation within 7 days as to why no action should be initiated under the FSS Act, 2006.<\/div>\nWhat did FSSAI say?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n
