<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\nNEW DELHI: Two alleged snatchers involved in a series of mobile phone snatching incidents in the ITO-IP Estate area have been arrested. Police have invoked provisions related to organised crime, alleging that the accused were operating as part of a structured street crime module. The module came to light after a mobile phone snatching was reported at the IP Estate Police Station on June 27. The complainant, a resident of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, told police that he was travelling on a motorcycle near the IP Flyover towards Kashmere Gate when two unidentified men on a black motorcycle snatched his mobile phone and fled. A case was subsequently registered. During the investigation, police found that the incident was not isolated but part of a series of four snatching incidents reported within an hour in the same area. \u201cThe team carried out an examination of CCTV footage and local intelligence was also developed,\u201d said DCP (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh, adding that one of the accused was identified as Asif, 26, from Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh. Police traced Asif to his native village, Mahdood, where he was arrested last Wednesday. During questioning, he allegedly told investigators that he had committed the crime along with a co-accused, Shahrukh. The motorcycle used in the offence, which had been stolen from Wazirabad, was recovered from Zakir Nagar in southeast Delhi. According to police, Asif also revealed that the stolen motorcycle had been arranged by Tarik, 22, a resident of Shastri Park, who had allegedly provided logistical support for the crime. Tarik was arrested last Thursday. Investigators said Shahrukh rode the stolen motorcycle while Asif, who was riding pillion, snatched the mobile phones. The stolen phones were later allegedly sold through a receiver, identified as Arjun, to conceal the stolen property. Police said Asif and Shahrukh each received 40 per cent of the proceeds, while Tarik received 15 per cent and Arjun 5 per cent. According to police, Asif is a habitual offender with 23 criminal cases registered against him across Delhi-NCR. He also allegedly told investigators that he was involved in three other cases registered at the IP Estate Police Station. Police said these claims are being verified. Police added that, considering the structured division of roles, systematic sharing of criminal proceeds and coordinated pattern of repeated offences, Section 112 (organised crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been invoked.<\/div>\n
