<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\nKochi<\/span>:<\/span> High court has initiated a suo motu case based on media reports alleging large-scale tree felling and illegal constructions that pose a threat to the Cardamom Hill Reserve at Gudanpara Estate in Idukki district.A bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice V M Syam Kumar will consider the matter on Friday. The estate shares its boundary with Tamil Nadu and is home to more than 600 species of trees. According to reports, the 296-acre cardamom title land situated in Gudanpara Estate was originally claimed by certain persons and was subsequently leased out, following which large-scale tree felling and construction activities allegedly commenced.The forest department has registered three cases relating to the felling of rare tree species in connection with the alleged activities. It has also been alleged that no farming activities had previously been carried out on the land and that extensive tree felling is currently under way.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
