<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\nNew Delhi: Delhi govt Wednesday officially notified Delhi Electric Vehicles (EV) Policy 2026, bringing into force a roadmap to accelerate electric mobility in the national capital with effect from July 1, 2026. The notification, issued by the lieutenant governor under the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, follows the Delhi Cabinet\u2019s approval of the policy earlier this week and will remain in force till March 31, 2030.The notification marks the formal rollout of the policy that seeks to improve air quality by promoting battery-powered vehicles.Among its key mandates, the policy provides that only electric auto-rickshaws, both passenger and goods carriers, will be registered in Delhi from Jan 1, 2027. Registration of new petrol and CNG two-wheelers will be phased out, with only electric two-wheelers eligible for registration from April 1, 2028. The Cabinet had also rejected a proposal to extend incentives to strong hybrid vehicles, retaining the policy\u2019s exclusive focus on \u201cpure EVs\u201d.The policy introduces a three-year lock-in period for beneficiaries availing govt subsidies, preventing them from registering their subsidised vehicles outside Delhi during this period.It also offers scrapping incentives, including Rs 1 lakh for eligible electric cars purchased after scrapping Delhi-registered BS-IV and older vehicles, subject to specified conditions and limited to the first one lakh applicants. Chief minister Rekha Gupta said the govt would invest around Rs 15,000 crore over the next four years to promote electric mobility. More than 30,000 EV charging points will be installed across the capital, while a dedicated online portal will facilitate Direct Benefit Transfer of incentives and support the city\u2019s transition to cleaner transport.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
