The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE<\/a>) Class 12 student whose answer sheet mix up exposed questions over this year’s post-result process has finally received his re-evaluation outcome. But the result has brought only a marginal change.Vedant Srivastava, whose Physics answer book was mistakenly exchanged with another student’s during the Board’s post-result process, said his overall score has increased by just two marks. None of the increase came from the disputed Physics paper that had triggered the controversy.“I’m relieved that the result has finally been released,” Vedant said on X on Sunday.He said he had applied for re-evaluation of 11 questions across subjects, but only Mathematics and Computer Science saw a change.“In the case of the answer sheet exchange, there isn’t a single mark increased. The marks that have increased are in maths where one mark has increased and one in computer science,” he said.<\/p>\n

The case that sparked questions over OSM

Vedant’s case first surfaced in May when he alleged that the Physics answer sheet made available to him through CBSE’s post-result services was not his own.Instead of receiving a scanned copy of his answer book, he said he was shown another student’s script. The claim quickly gained attention on social media, with several students coming forward with similar complaints about discrepancies in evaluated answer books under CBSE’s newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.Following the backlash, CBSE acknowledged that there had been an inadvertent exchange of answer sheets during the post-result process. The Board later provided Vedant with his actual Physics answer book.That correction itself changed his Physics marks from 65 to 74.However, after examining the correct answer script, Vedant said he noticed what he believed were further issues in the evaluation and decided to seek re-evaluation.<\/p>\n

Fresh questions after answer book surfaced

The matter gathered fresh attention after Vedant shared images of his actual Physics answer sheet online.Several social media users pointed out that the booklet appeared to contain conventional red ink markings instead of annotations that many associated with the digital On-Screen Marking process. The observations led to fresh questions about how the answer book had been evaluated.CBSE did not issue a separate response to those observations.<\/p>\n

Debate over OSM continues

With the re-evaluation results now declared, Vedant’s individual case has largely reached its conclusion. The debate surrounding CBSE’s first year of implementing On-Screen Marking, however, continues.Several students who later received verified or re-evaluated answer books have continued to raise concerns about the evaluation process. Among the issues highlighted are answers that students claim were left unchecked, responses that allegedly received no marks despite being attempted, and instances where the marks awarded did not appear to match the evaluation markings on the answer sheet.The On-Screen Marking system was introduced for the first time in the 2026 Class 12 Board examinations, replacing the conventional manual evaluation process with digital assessment of scanned answer books.The transition also saw a sharp rise in post-result applications, with lakhs of students applying for verification of marks, photocopies of answer books and re-evaluation.CBSE has maintained that the evaluation and post-result review process has been carried out according to prescribed procedures.<\/div>\n
