<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nDelhi University’s Kamala Nehru College has been recognised as a “Zero-Waste Institution” under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.The certificate was presented to the college by chief guest Shashwat Saurabh, deputy commissioner of the Central Zone, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD<\/a>), during the event “Awareness on Zero-Waste Management Practices” organised on the college campus.Addressing the gathering, college principal Professor Pavitra Bhardwaj reflected on Kamala Nehru College’s journey since its establishment in 1964 and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining an eco-friendly, garbage-free campus. She also highlighted the role of the college’s Solid Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) Committee, which works in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to promote sustainable waste management.The programme was attended by Dr Rajiv Nayan, assistant commissioner, Central Zone, MCD, and Shammi Talwar, brand ambassador for MCD’s Swachh Survekshan campaign. Talwar highlighted the growing challenge of waste accumulation in the city and stressed that segregation and proper disposal must begin at the source, including households.Chief guest Shashwat Saurabh emphasised the need for collective action to tackle waste management, noting that the problem cannot be addressed without public participation. He lauded the efforts of MCD sanitation workers and urged students to recognise that fulfilling civic responsibilities is as important as asserting their rights. Encouraging the students to become agents of change, he added that the country must move beyond the principles of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” by embracing responsible citizenship to realise the vision of a Swachh Bharat.The programme also featured a skit by members of the college’s SLRM Committee highlighting the importance of waste management. Saurabh presented certificates to students for participating in activities related to the initiative before formally handing over the “Zero-Waste Institution” certificate to the principal.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
