Walking away from that security would likely invite questions from family, concern from friends and warnings about an uncertain future.But fresh hiring data suggests that some people who made that leap may have spotted a shift before everyone else.According to an Indeed report cited by BizzBuzz News, India’s fastest-growing hiring sectors are no longer the traditional technology roles that dominated the job market for years. Instead, employers are increasingly looking for workers in wellness, sports, personal care and home health services.Job postings in the beauty and wellness sector rose by more than 36 per cent over the past three months. Hiring in sports-related roles jumped by over 41 per cent, making it one of the fastest-growing categories. Personal care and home health jobs increased by more than 34 per cent, while cleaning and sanitation roles recorded growth of over 27 per cent.At the same time, demand for some technology jobs has weakened. Software development postings fell by 12.3 per cent, IT infrastructure and support roles declined by 10.2 per cent, and data and analytics positions dropped by 6.7 per cent.The numbers do not suggest that India’s IT industry is in trouble. According to Callam Pickering, senior economist at Indeed APAC, overall employer demand in India remains healthy. What appears to be changing is where the strongest growth is happening.The rise of organised businesses in fitness, beauty, home healthcare and personal services is creating more formal employment opportunities. Gym chains, wellness brands, home-care platforms and beauty service companies are expanding and hiring at scale, turning sectors once dominated by informal work into structured career options.India’s overall job postings were 3.4 per cent higher year-on-year in May, according to the report. The jobs are still being created. Increasingly, however, they are emerging in sectors that many people once overlooked.That is why the software engineer who left coding behind for a career in wellness may no longer look like an outlier.
