State government data shows that digital transactions grew from around Rs 122 crore in 2017-18 to over Rs 1,024 crore during April\u2013December 2024, reflecting the widespread adoption of UPI and other electronic payment systems.A major driver of digital payments in UP has been the DBT ecosystem. This has enhanced transparency and reportedly saved thousands of crores by eliminating intermediaries.The widespread acceptance of UPI has transformed payments across urban and rural Uttar Pradesh. Small shops, street vendors, transport services, and government agencies increasingly accept QR-code-based payments, making transactions faster and more convenient. UPI has become the dominant mode of digital payment in India and a major contributor to UP’s digital economy.Improved internet connectivity, smartphone penetration, banking correspondents, and financial literacy campaigns have encouraged citizens to shift from cash to digital modes of payment.Under the BC Sakhi programme, around 40,000 women are providing banking and digital financial services in rural areas. It was launched in 2016 to improve efficiency, transparency, and competition in government procurement.Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of the leading users of the GeM platform. According to recent reports, UP recorded procurement worth over Rs 65,000 crore through GeM between 2020-21 and 2024-25, making it the top-buying state in the country.
