<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nNEW DELHI: What began as a routine workday for Meena, a domestic help who had served a south Delhi family for over 15 years, ended in a gruesome killing that has shocked the city’s Mount Kailash neighbourhood.Police say dermatologist Dr Manish Gupta, 50, allegedly bludgeoned Meena to death and slit her throat on the terrace of his bungalow on Thursday morning. Investigators described the neck wound as resembling a “medical incision”, adding a chilling detail to a case that has left residents struggling to comprehend the violence.According to police, Gupta had been undergoing treatment for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder for nearly a decade. A senior officer said he had recently been grappling with violent thoughts and was allegedly contemplating whether to harm himself or members of his family.Cops believe tensions had been brewing at home over Meena’s employment. Gupta reportedly wanted her removed from the household, while his wife insisted she continue working, citing her years of loyalty and the care she had shown the family. Meena had stood by them during one of their most difficult periods, helping care for Gupta’s mother while she battled cancer before her death about a year and a half ago. <\/p>\n On Thursday, Meena arrived at the house around 10.30am and began her usual chores. After washing clothes, she went to the terrace to hang laundry. It was there, police allege, that Gupta attacked her with his son’s cricket bat, striking her repeatedly on the face and head before slitting her throat with a kitchen knife.“The slit mark on Meena’s neck resembles a medical incision,” a senior police officer said.Gupta’s 19-year-old son was inside the house when the attack took place. Police said the doctor later came downstairs and told him he had attacked the domestic help. His wife was away from home at the time.The victim’s body was discovered after a resident of a nearby tower spotted her lying motionless in a pool of blood on the terrace and alerted authorities. When police arrived, they found Gupta seated on a staircase inside the building. Officers said he told them, “Mujhe faansi de do” (“Hang me”).A blood-stained kitchen knife and a bat were recovered from the scene.Meena is survived by her husband and son Robin. Her husband lives in their native village in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, while Robin works for a private company in Delhi’s Nehru Place.“I left for work around 6.30am as usual. Later, a relative called and told me my mother had died,” Robin said. “She never complained about doctor sir. There were never any issues between them. Why would someone do this?”The killing sparked emotional scenes outside the bungalow as grieving relatives gathered and tried to confront the accused while police escorted him away.
