NEW DELHI: Delhi Police<\/a> arrested a man on Sunday who had repeatedly attacked his wife with a knife, after he was suspected of planning another assault.Reportedly, the accused held his wife responsible for the deaths of their two children and began attacking her repeatedly over the years.The accused, Sajid Ali, a resident of Bindapur, had earlier been declared a proclaimed offender this month in an attempt-to-murder case registered at the Dabri police station in 2021. Police said he was also wanted in a separate case of grievous hurt and had been evading trial in another criminal matter, news agency PTI reported.\u201cSajid had allegedly attacked his wife multiple times with the intention of killing her. Investigators described him as a \u2018maniac\u2019 and a \u2018jilted husband\u2019, citing his alleged obsessive hostility towards his wife, whom he blamed for the deaths of their two children shortly after birth,\u201d a senior police officer said.According to police, Sajid married in 2015, and the couple lost two children who died soon after birth. Officials said these incidents deeply affected him. He gradually developed resentment towards his wife and began holding her responsible for the deaths of their children.He allegedly later became addicted to drugs and alcohol and frequently demanded money from his wife to sustain his addiction, PTI reported.In 2021, Sajid allegedly attacked his wife with a knife on three occasions, following which he was arrested in an attempt-to-murder case. After being released from jail in November 2024, he allegedly assaulted her again in 2025 and went into hiding to avoid arrest.A Crime Branch team traced his location to the Ikram Nagar area in Ghaziabad. Acting on a tip-off, the team laid a trap near Labour Chowk on Saturday. Sajid was spotted while allegedly heading to meet an associate. He tried to flee after noticing the police team but was caught after a brief chase.Police said Sajid had been declared a proclaimed offender by a local court in the 2021 attempt-to-murder case. Non-bailable warrants had also been issued against him in another case.(With agency inputs) <\/span><\/div>\n
