He says, “I consciously look for a shift in the core values and mindset of every new character I take on. Even if the basic emotion remains the same, the motivation behind it must differ. For instance, an angry man role could be driven by personal trauma or by frustration with systemic and socio-economic issues. While the emotion anger—remains constant, the intent behind it transforms the entire portrayal. That distinction helps me keep each performance fresh and layered.”But how someone can identify when he or she being offered repetitive characters! On this Amal says, “A major red flag is when a character is introduced by referencing an already existing portrayal. For example, when someone says, “If a character is similar to the one played by a certain actor in a particular film, it often indicates that the approach may lack originality. As an actor, I’m drawn to characters that bring something new to the table. If I sense repetition, I either try to reinterpret the role with a fresh perspective or choose to step away from it.”Amal who has done Bollywood movies like Satya 2 and Sarkaar 3 has been very selective about his roles. He feels he is in a way fortunate not to be labelled in the industry. He says,”Fortunately, I haven’t been boxed into a fixed image so far. I’ve had the opportunity to portray a principled, value-driven individual as convincingly as a ruthless underworld don. From the beginning, I’ve made choices that lean toward versatility. Stepping out of my comfort zone isn’t a risk for me, I feel it’s a necessity for growth as an actor. All great things come with a certain degree of risk. My purpose as an actor has always been to experiment and avoid monotony. The only way to achieve that is by consistently choosing roles that are different from what I’ve done before. Reinvention keeps the craft alive—not just for the audience, but for me as a performer as well.”Amal also shares how he has consciously avoided certain roles in his career. He adds,”Many times I don’t believe in jumping at every opportunity that comes my way. For me, the script is the foundation. I take the time to read, evaluate, and understand it deeply. If it doesn’t satisfy me creatively or doesn’t offer something new as an actor, I choose to step away. That clarity allows me to fully surrender to the roles I do take on and do complete justice to them, rather than being part of something that feels repetitive or uninspired.” Being asked about today’s audience choices Amal shares his take. ”Today’s audience is far more aware and open to novelty than ever before. They don’t want to see the same performances repeated—they want to be surprised. That curiosity and evolving taste actually push me to take on more diverse and challenging roles. So in a way, there’s no real conflict between audience expectations and my creative instincts—they both align in the pursuit of something fresh and engaging.”

Source link

Amal Sehrawat who is working in the industry for quite sometime now shares his way of deciding roles in his career.
