ahead in Kerala on Monday as counting of votes for the 140 Assembly constituencies progressed, putting the opposition alliance on course for a strong comeback after a decade.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"2\"\/>Early trends showed the UDF leading in around 100 seats, while the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) trailed with leads in about 40 constituencies.The counting process began at 8am across centres in the state, starting with postal ballots, and a clearer picture is expected as more rounds are completed.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"4\"\/>While the BJP has been attempting to expand its footprint after recent gains in parliamentary and local body polls, its presence remains limited to a handful of constituencies in the early trends.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"8\"\/>The Kerala contest is part of a broader electoral exercise across five states, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry
