New Delhi: <\/span>Following a spate of clashes reported at various Delhi University<\/a> colleges during recent fests, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College has barred its students\u2019 union from organising any events, including freshers\u2019 parties and annual programmes, or seeking sponsorship on the college\u2019s behalf, independently or in any capacity within or on behalf of the college \u2014 thus tightening control over campus events.In a public notice issued on April 27, the college principal said all fests, freshers\u2019 welcome programmes, events and other cultural activities would henceforth be organised only by the college\u2019s cultural committee and functions committee. Any deviation would be viewed seriously and dealt with in accordance with college rules, it warned.The notice stated that the move was aimed at ensuring \u201cproper coordination, discipline, accountability and adherence to institutional procedures\u201d. The students\u2019 union\u2019s role would be limited to student welfare activities, including representing student interests and assisting only in initiatives approved by the college authorities, according to the order.The restriction comes amid growing concern over repeated clashes during DU\u2019s fest season, with several colleges witnessing disruptions and violence in recent weeks.On April 9, a violent clash broke out between two groups of students at Hansraj College during its annual fest, Confluence 2026, organised by the college students\u2019 union after days of protests seeking permission to hold the event. The fest was abruptly shut down and singer Vilen\u2019s performance was called off midway.Following the incident, Hansraj College suspended around 30 students, including several linked to the students\u2019 union, and an FIR was lodged against 17 students and four outsiders based on the college administration\u2019s complaint against alleged organised violence.In its complaint, the college alleged that a group of 50 to 60 people, including outsiders, entered the campus as an unlawful assembly armed with knives and other sharp objects and assaulted students.A similar ruckus was also reported at Shyam Lal College during its fest earlier this month, forcing the event to be called off abruptly.<\/div>\n
