Lucknow: People residing in Chinhat and nearby localities can look forward to improved connectivity to both Lucknow-Ayodhya and Lucknow-Sultanpur national highways from their colonies.Service lanes are going to be constructed along both sides of the Kisan Path to provide better accessibility to the population staying within the villages located alongside the 13-km-long Kisan Path.Part of the outer ring road, the section between Sultanpur Road and Ayodhya Road is called Kisan Path. NHAI’s Lucknow project implementation unit, citing increased urbanisation and inhabitation, submitted a proposal worth Rs 185 crore to construct the service lanes. Once the funds are sanctioned, it will take a year to complete the stretch.Director of the Lucknow project implementation unit Nakul Prakash Verma said, “Local residents and elected representatives have been raising demands for service lanes. The main carriageway of the Kisan Path remains overburdened with both city traffic and movement of heavy vehicles. Also, several colonies and apartments have come up in the localities along the Kisan Path.”Lolai, Mehora, Bakkas, Mehmoodpur, Juggaur and Dularmau are some villages where plotted colonies and row houses have been developed over the years. Providing service lanes will make commuting over the main carriageway safer for vehicle owners since a lot of the time the local villagers ply in the wrong direction on two-wheelers to cut down the travel time.The length of the service lanes on both sides is going to be 3.50 metres.In another positive development, which will fast-track the completion of the project, the irrigation department has given its approval to hand over its land for construction of the service lanes.“We had to keep some setback to build embankment along the Indira Canal. The same land is going to be utilised to develop the service lanes. Earlier too, land was provided to NHAI to construct the six-lane-wide Kisan Path along the canal,” said a senior officer from the irrigation department. The service lane linking Ayodhya Road to Sultanpur Road will be 9.31 km long, while the one coming up on the opposite end will be 8.80 km long.
