‘Ramayana‘ the grand epic directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is reportedly creating history even before its big theatrical release this Diwali. According to the latest reports, the film is now gearing up for the biggest theatrical rollout in the history of Indian cinema.
‘Ramayana’ gets 50,000 screens overseas
The film, which has Sony Pictures backing its international distribution, is reportedly being positioned for a record-breaking global launch. The Hollywood studio is reportedly planning an overseas release on more than 50,000 screens outside India, states a report on Sacnilk. This would give ‘Ramayana’ the widest international release ever for an Indian film.Combined with an estimated 9,000-screen release across India, the film is expected to debut on over 59,000 screens worldwide, comfortably eclipsing every Indian film released to date.
‘Ramayana’ release BIGGER than ‘Pushpa 2’ and ‘RRR’
If the reported release strategy materialises, ‘Ramayana’ will comfortably surpass the worldwide screen counts of recent Indian blockbusters like ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ which had approximately 12,000–13,000 screens worldwide. Even the SS Rajamouli film ‘RRR’ debuted with around 10,000–11,000 screens worldwide. Most other Indian films have historically released on fewer than 10,000 screens globally, and still gone on to rake in huge box office openings and subsequent record-breaking lifetime collections.
‘Ramayana’ screen count to rival ‘Avatar’
The planned release schedule has also drawn comparisons with James Cameron’s Hollywood blockbuster ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’. The film was reported to have been released on approximately 52,000 screens worldwide and went on to score over USD 2.33 billion worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing film in history. If ‘Ramayana’ indeed launches on over 59,000 screens globally, it would be interesting to see the film’s box office haul.According to producer Namit Malhotra, the film will have its release in premium formats, including IMAX. It will also have a multilingual release, reportedly in 50 languages with the help of AI-powered lip-sync technology Brahma AI, developed by DNEG. Fans got a tease of the much-talked-about AI-assisted lip-sync technology when the team released the English trailer, while retaining their original voices and synchronised lip movement.
Star-studded cast and release date
‘Ramayana’ features an ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The film that is a two-part saga, will have its first part released on November 6, 2026 and its second part scheduled for Diwali 2027.
