DMRC to conduct feasibility study for Keshav Puram–Rohini Sector 34 double-decker metro corridor

New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will carry out a feasibility study for an integrated double-decker flyover-cum – metro corridor along the proposed Keshav Puram-Rohini Sector 34 corridor. This 16.3-km corridor is part of DMRC’s Phase-V(B) expansion. It is one of the seven proposed expansions, whose final approval is awaited. If found feasible, this will be the city’s fourth double-decker flyover, as three are under construction.On a double-decker viaduct, vehicles will run on the lower deck, while metro will run on the upper deck. “A tender has been floated for roping in a consultancy service for conducting the study for the integrated flyover. The estimated cost of the study is around Rs 2 crore, which is expected to be completed in six months,” said an official.The proposed Keshav Puram-Rohini Sector 34 corridor will be fully elevated with 12 stations. It will connect West Shalimar Bagh, East Pitampura, Rohini Sector 16, Delhi Technological University and Rohini Sector 29. Among these, three stations will have interchange facility: at Keshavpuram (Red Line), North Pitampura (Pink Line) and Rohini Sector 34 (Red Line).Delhi’s first 1.4-km-long double-decker viaduct between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar on Pink Line is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year. Trains are currently moving on the upper deck of the flyover after Majlis Park to the Maujpur-Babarpur corridor was inaugurated on March 8. Ramps on both sides for road traffic are being constructed and are likely to be completed by year-end.The second 2.2-km-long double-decker viaduct between Azadpur and Ashok Vihar stations is coming on the Janakpuri West and RK Ashram Marg corridor, an extension of Magenta Line. This viaduct is also likely to be ready by this year.The 2.4-km-long viaduct between Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar metro stations will be the longest among the three. It will be part of the 23.6-km-long Tughlaqabad to Aerocity corridor, the new Golden line.DMRC is currently constructing five corridors as part of its Phase-IV expansion. This includes Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk and Inderlok to Indraprastha, which are extensions of Magenta Line. The construction of two corridors of Golden Line (Delhi Aerocity to Tughlaqabad and another from Saket G block to Lajpat Nagar) is under way, while the Rithala-Kundli extension of Red Line is also progressing.
