BHADOHI: A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly strangling his wife to death over dowry demands, and because she had given birth to a girl,.Circle officer Sumit Tripathi said Ravi Shankar Bind was arrested in connection with the death of his wife, Preeti Bind, 25, after the post-mortem confirmed that she died due to strangulation on Monday.An FIR was registered at Suriyawan police station on July 5 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 80(2) and 85, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, against Ravi Shankar Bind, his father Sudama Bind, brother Pramod, sister-in-law Nisha Devi, and sisters Sangeeta and Jeera, he said.The case was filed on the complaint of the victim’s father, Triloki Nath Bind, a resident of Ramnagar in Prayagraj’s Handia area, news agency PTI reported.According to the complaint, Preeti, who married Ravi Shankar Bind on June 2, 2021, had been subjected to harassment by her husband and in-laws over additional dowry demands ever since her marriage.Her father alleged that the harassment became more severe after she gave birth to a daughter, who is now 10 months old. He claimed she was repeatedly assaulted before being killed on July 5.He further alleged that the accused abandoned her body outside the house before fleeing the spot.Tripathi said the post-mortem was conducted on July 6 after the victim’s father reached from Prayagraj and informed the police.Police said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.(With agency inputs)
