NEW DELHI: Delhi police rescued a 17-year-old girl after she was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a 22-year-old man in northeast Delhi. The suspect, who resides in Uttam Nagar, was taken into custody early Sunday morning.The investigation began after the girl’s mother contacted the police on June 23, reporting that her daughter had been missing since June 20.The family had been unable to locate her, leading them to suspect she had been kidnapped, news agency PTI reported.Describing the recovery process, police stated, “Based on the complaint, the team registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, a police team analysed electronic evidence, tracked technical leads and gathered local intelligence to trace the victim’s location.”The accused reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning.Following her rescue and the recording of her statement, police charged the man under sections 64(1) (Rape) and 87 (Kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as Section 4 of the POCSO Act, PTI reported.While the accused remains in police custody, officials noted that the victim has received the appropriate support as required by legal protocols.The investigation in this regard is currently underway, officials said.(With agency inputs)
