Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police operation cell conducted a massive surprise checking operation at the ISBT-43 on Friday morning following recent firing incidents in the city. Security forces cordoned off the entire transit complex for nearly two hours to scan for suspicious elements and strengthen public safety.During the high-intensity sweep, teams were deployed across all entry and exit gates to intercept arriving and departing vehicles. Cops also boarded buses to manually search passengers’ belongings, luggage, and commercial parcels while verifying the credentials of local shopkeepers and suspicious individuals.While the sudden, heavy police presence initially alarmed morning commuters, officials clarified that the combing drive was a preemptive security measure aimed entirely at monitoring suspicious activities. No illegal items or suspects were reported seized during the two-hour station lockdown.Following the operation, police highlighted a vulnerability in the terminal’s surveillance network, noting that while the interior of the Sector-43 bus stand is well-covered by CCTV cameras, the outer periphery remains a blind spot. Investigators stated that criminals frequently exploit the unmonitored outer route near the Kajheri petrol pump to escape, emphasising an urgent need to install additional security cameras along the external boundary walls.
