Mapusa: Heavy monsoon rains have exposed the deteriorating condition of key road infrastructure across Pernem taluka, with several stretches turning into potential accident hotspots and drawing criticism over alleged neglect by the public works department (PWD).At Chandel–Hasapur, the approach road to a newly constructed bridge has deteriorated into a dangerous stretch littered with loose stones and deep craters. Commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, are forced to navigate the uneven surface at considerable risk, with residents describing the route as hazardous and increasingly prone to skidding during wet weather.A similar situation has emerged on the service road at Dhargal Don Khamb, where persistent waterlogging has submerged large potholes at a busy junction, making it difficult for motorists to detect the hidden hazards.Residents say the waterlogged road and deteriorating surface conditions have significantly heightened the risk of accidents, turning daily commutes into a safety concern. With both routes serving as vital links for students, workers and local residents, frustration is mounting over the lack of timely repairs.Locals have urged the PWD to undertake immediate asphalting and restoration work, warning that further delays could lead to serious accidents as monsoon conditions intensify.
