NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has launched an investigation after an intellectually challenged woman was found injured in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area, with multiple teams deployed to identify and apprehend those responsible, officials said on Saturday.According to police, a PCR call was received at the Mayur Vihar police station around 6.30 am on June 12 regarding an injured woman lying near Trilokpuri.When police reached the spot, neither the woman nor the caller was present there.Upon contacting the caller, police learnt that he was a rickshaw puller who had informed authorities before leaving the area.During local inquiries, officers found that an ambulance had shifted the injured woman to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.The victim was later identified as an intellectually challenged vagrant woman who is frequently seen roaming in the Block 27 area of Trilokpuri.

Police said her medico-legal case (MLC) report indicated physical assault, with swelling and superficial injury marks found on her face.Doctors informed investigators that the woman is conscious but unable to provide a coherent statement because of her intellectual disability.Following the incident, Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams inspected the scene and collected evidence. Police also carried out extensive local inquiries in the area.Based on the medical examination and available evidence, a case under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Mayur Vihar police station.Police said several teams have been formed to scan CCTV footage and gather local intelligence.
