Guwahati: AIIMS Guwahati has strengthened its super-specialty healthcare services in the northeast with the formal unveiling of its advanced neurosurgical operation theatre (OT) facility, officials said on Sunday.The advanced neurosurgical OT was established with financial support of Rs 6.5 crore from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. “The funding enabled the procurement of cutting-edge neurosurgical equipment aimed at enhancing precision, safety, and outcomes in complex brain and spine surgeries,” a govt release said.The state-of-the-art facility was formally inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Ashok Puranik, executive director of AIIMS Guwahati, in the presence of dignitaries, including Surendra Kumar Majhi, senior general manager and head of project at PGCIL.“Corporates have come forward to partner in providing advanced, high-cost equipment required for complex and delicate neurological procedures. Their role in supporting healthcare goes beyond sustainability,” said Prof. Puranik.He added, “Many patients with brain tumours, vascular malformations, nerve injuries, and spinal conditions have benefited from the timely availability of this advanced equipment. These contributions are need-based, with no strings attached, reflecting a genuine corporate intent to support community healthcare, improve affordability, and ensure better outcomes.”Prof. Puranik also underlined the importance of such collaborations in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in emerging institutions and reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to providing high-quality, accessible care to the people of the northeast.Surendra Kumar Majhi reiterated PGCIL’s commitment to supporting social development through impactful CSR initiatives, particularly in the healthcare sector.
